Riverside Special School was thrilled to host their Term 3 Board of Governors Meeting, where they had the opportunity to share exciting developments and celebrate the growth of their school community. One of the most impactful highlights of the meeting was a presentation on their continued partnership with KidsFirst Singapore, now in its fourth year.
This collaboration has been a cornerstone of their commitment to best practices in education. Over the years, their relationship with KidsFirst Singapore has evolved into a dynamic and enriching exchange of ideas and expertise. They’ve built a strong professional network where mutual learning and reflection take place, ultimately benefiting both their staff and students.
A notable achievement in this collaboration has been the adaptation of classroom environments at Riverside, inspired by KidsFirst Singapore’s innovative Sensory Integration spaces. This transformation, observed firsthand by their educators during visits to Singapore, aligns with the growing global recognition of KidsFirst Singapore by organizations such as Autism NI.
This year, their focus has been on Curriculum Development, particularly the use of the Equals curriculum, a framework designed to meet the diverse needs of learners. Both Riverside and KidsFirst Singapore have been piloting this curriculum, and the results have been highly positive. The opportunity to engage in regular virtual and in-person meetings has allowed educators from both institutions to reflect, adapt, and evolve their teaching practices together.
The collaboration between Riverside and KidsFirst Singapore is directly aligned with the launch of the Transform Ed strategy by Education Minister Paul Givan, positioning Singapore as a global leader in education. This initiative mirrors Northern Ireland’s recognition for its skilled teaching workforce, which they proudly reflect at Riverside through the dedication and expertise of their staff.
Their ongoing partnership with KidsFirst Singapore underscores Riverside’s commitment to forward-thinking, international collaborative practices. As they work together to create a global classroom, they are shaping an educational future where excellence knows no borders. By sharing resources, insights, and practices, they are not just preparing students for academic success—but for a world of endless possibilities.
